Pirate Birthday

Hello! I'm here today with a card I created for my nephew's birthday. He's turning 9 and these little pirates from My Favorite Things made me think of him. I purposely bought the Pirate and Mermaid sets and the Porthole die with this card in mind. It's a relief to finally have it out of my brain!

I started my card by creating my base from some Crumb Cake cardstock. I stamped my wooden plank background on it in Versamark ink and then heat embossed in clear powder for some fun texture. Next, I cut a circle from the front of the card that matches the size of the Porthole die.

I cut my Porthole from some white cardstock and then used Versamark ink and Copper embossing powder to create a metallic look. I adhered that directly to the card front surrounding the hole in the base.

I stamped my mermaid and my pirate and colored them in with my Copics. I used my Brother Scan N Cut 2 to cut them out with a slight border and then adhered my pirate to the inside of my card so that he showed through the window. I used some foam tape on the back of my mermaid to give her some dimension since she's supposed to be swimming outside of the pirate's ship.

I struggled with how to stamp my sentiment. I was going to add another strip of paper since my base was heat embossed, but ultimately settled on stamping directly to the base and then heat embossing in another color of powder (Copper to match the porthole). You have to be careful when heating the second layer of powder so that it doesn't run into the layer that's already on the card. Short bursts of heat keeps your sentiment crisp and clear!

I love how it turned out! It's the perfect card for my sweet nephew! Thanks for stopping by!
